Dean Athans to Succeed Mary Ellen Jones at The Engine Alliance

Dean Athans has been named president of the Engine Alliance, succeeding Mary Ellen Jones, who is returning to a senior leadership position at Pratt & Whitney. The Engine Alliance is a 50/50 joint venture of GE Aviation (NYSE:GE) and Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Indiana Student Wins Second Annual Sikorsky Helicopter 2050 Challenge

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), and By Kids For Kids Co., an organization that inspires kids to become successful inventors, today awarded an Indiana teenager the Igor Sikorsky Youth Innovator Award for his conceptual design of a circular-shaped medical evacuation helicopter.

Paul Adams, Pratt & Whitney’s senior vice president of Operations & Engineering, was named recipient of the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineering) 2012 Leadership Award for advancing the use of computers and information in engineering.

UTC Chief Shakes Up Aerospace Landscape

Aviation Week has named Louis Chênevert 2011 Person of the Year. The magazine says “In 2011, nobody has to ask who Louis R. Chenevert is. The 54-year-old chairman and CEO of United Technologies Corp. rocked the aerospace and defense industries with a string of bold moves that improbably came together in a single year.”

Pratt & Whitney Receives Silver Boeing Performance Excellence Award

The Boeing Company has recognized Pratt & Whitney as a 2011 Boeing Performance Excellence Award winner. Boeing issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. Pratt & Whitney maintained a Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30, 2011. This is the second consecutive year that Pratt & Whitney has received the honor.
