Sikorsky Challenges Kids to Create the Helicopter of the Future in Scholarship Competition

For the fourth consecutive year, Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), is giving kids, ages 9 – 16, a chance to compete for a $1,000 scholarship through the Sikorsky Helicopter 2050 Program and Challenge. The national program, which challenges kids to design a Helicopter of the Future, kicked off June 1 and will run through September 30, 2014. Contestants will design a helicopter that addresses the potential challenges of 2050 and plan for how their Helicopters of the Future would overcome those challenges.

Sikorsky Begins Powered Ground Tests of CH-53K Helicopter with Rotor Blades

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has begun full system testing of the U.S. Marine Corps’ CH-53K heavy lift helicopter with all seven main rotor blades and four tail rotor blades attached for the first time to a non-flying prototype called the Ground Test Vehicle (GTV). Powered “Light-Off” with rotor blades spinning follows a “Bare Head” (without blades) test phase of the GTV aircraft’s systems powered by its three GE 7,500 horsepower class engines, and begins a rigorous two-year test program of the rotor blades, transmission, engines, and all subsystems while the GTV is anchored to the ground.

Sikorsky Tests CH-53K Helicopter for Airframe Structural Strength

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has successfully completed an initial series of tests required by the Naval Air Systems Command to verify the structural strength of the CH-53K heavy lift helicopter. Conducted on a full-size non-flying airframe called the Static Test Article, the tests are part of a three-year program to validate that the largest helicopter ever designed and built by Sikorsky has the structural integrity to operate safely over its entire flight envelope — from its empty gross weight of 44,000 pounds up to its maximum gross weight of 88,000 pounds with external load.

Maritime Helicopter Support Company Breaks Ground on Navy’s MH-60R Helicopter Maintenance Facilities

The Maritime Helicopter Support Company (MHSCo) — a Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin joint venture company — today broke ground to build the maintenance and warehouse facilities that will provide Through Life Support logistics services for the Royal Australian Navy’s new fleet of 24 MH-60R SEAHAWK® helicopters. Once completed in early 2015, the two buildings, totaling more than 11,400 square meters (120,000 square feet), will house as many as 120 personnel with the knowledge and ability to keep the fleet in peak flight readiness during its estimated 30-year lifespan.

Sikorsky Begins Safety of Flight Tests on First Prototype CH-53K Helicopter

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has powered up the engines and spun the rotor head on the first prototype CH-53K heavy lift helicopter — designated the Ground Test Vehicle (GTV). The January 24 event continues the “Bare Head Light Off” phase of testing — so named because it was conducted without rotor blades — that began under auxiliary power in December with safety-of-flight test pilots at the aircraft’s controls.

The Ministry of Defence this week at the Brunei International Defence Exhibition (Bridex) accepted two Sikorsky S-70i™ BLACK HAWK helicopters into the Royal Brunei Air Force following an unveiling attended by His Majesty the Sultan. Two more Sikorsky S-70i BLACK HAWK helicopters are currently undergoing the process of acceptance at the Royal Brunei Air Force. Equipped with a suite of advanced avionics and sensors, the multirole aircraft can perform a variety of missions over land and water, including search and rescue, humanitarian relief, anti-piracy, troop transport and medical evacuation. TATA Sikorsky JV delivers first fully indigenous S-92® helicopter cabin

The India joint venture established between Tata Advanced Systems and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation today announced that its S-92® helicopter cabin production in India has become 100 percent indigenous. The India operation is not only assembling cabins but also producing all parts needed for the assembly, before shipping the cabins to the U.S. for aircraft completion and customer delivery.

Sikorsky Aircraft  and Changhe Aircraft Industries Corp. today signed an
agreement for Changhe to produce S-76D™ commercial helicopter cabins for
Sikorsky, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). The agreement
was signed during the China Helicopter Exposition, with Chairman Yu Feng,
Changhe Aircraft Industry Group Co., Ltd., and Senior Vice President,

Sikorsky/PZL Mielec M28® aircraft granted Full Icing Certification by EASA and FAA

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) in the U.S. have certified the M28® fixed-wing aircraft for
flight in known icing conditions. The M28 is produced by the PZL Mielec company,
a business unit of Sikorsky Aircraft, which is a subsidiary of United
Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Commonwealth of Australia Thanks Sikorsky for Early Delivery of First MH-60R Helicopter

The Commonwealth of Australia has thanked Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary
of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), for early delivery of the first MH-60R
SEAHAWK® helicopter to the U.S. Navy, the initial step in the process to
transfer a mission-ready aircraft to the Australian Defence Force in December
2013. “Delivery and first flight of an Australian MH-60R aircraft in late June
occurred only two years after contract signature, some six months ahead of the
original schedule approved by the Australian Government in 2011,” said Captain
Scott Lockey, project director at the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), which
is procuring 24 MH-60R anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare helicopters for
the Royal Australian Navy. “This is a magnificent outcome for our program.”

Sikorsky, Boeing Form Joint Venture to Offer Saudi Rotorcraft Logistics and Training

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (NYSE:   UTX) and Boeing (NYSE:   BA) have formed a joint venture to compete for sustainment services in support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s rotorcraft fleet. Contracts that the joint venture will pursue are administered by the U.S. Government as part of its Foreign Military Sales process. The joint venture will help advance the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify its economy, expand the technological expertise of its aerospace and commercial sectors, and create jobs.
